Teen Brothers Jailed After Vicious Assault

A deeply disturbing case in Liverpool has brought renewed focus to youth violence, after two teenage brothers, Connor and Brandon Doran, along with friend Simon Evans, were convicted for the tragic killing of Kevin Bennett, a vulnerable man experiencing homelessness. Mr. Bennett, 53, was sleeping behind a supermarket when the boys launched a 20-minute attack that would ultimately claim his life. The man, who had spent the evening at a local pub, was left severely injured and died six days later due to complications from his wounds.
A Family History of Violence

Tragically, the brutal act wasn’t an isolated event within the Doran family. While Connor and Brandon were being questioned, their older brother Ryan was preparing for trial on a separate murder charge. Ryan Doran had earlier launched a fatal, unprovoked attack on 42-year-old Wayne Mitchell. Their mother, Linda Doran, was later jailed for providing a false alibi for her sons, obstructing the police investigation. Another brother, Jordan Doran, was sentenced for contempt after using a phone to take pictures during court proceedings.
A Night of Tragedy

On August 17, 2012, Kevin Bennett was targeted as he slept in an alley near County Road. Encouraged by Connor Doran, Simon Evans delivered multiple blows while Brandon acted as lookout. Despite severe injuries, Mr. Bennett managed to reach the front of the store before collapsing. He died six days later in hospital after an infection took hold.
