The film confused many viewers with its heavy symbolism — and Lawrence herself admitted she didn’t fully understand it either. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked her, “On a scale of one to totally confused, how much did you understand Mother!?”
Lawrence answered honestly and jokingly: “Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had CliffsNotes.” She rated her understanding at about a four or five, adding that if anyone needed help understanding their films, “you know what to do.”
