For decades, Dyan Cannon lit up movie screens with her bright smile, sharp wit, and undeniable charm. With three Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe win, and iconic roles in films like Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and Heaven Can Wait, her career became a lasting part of Hollywood history. In 1983, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—cementing her legacy. Yet one of the most defining chapters of her life happened off-screen.

In the early 1960s, Cannon fell in love with Cary Grant, one of cinema’s greatest stars. They married despite a 33-year age gap, but Cannon later revealed the relationship was deeply controlling. She said Grant wanted her to quit acting and change how she dressed, behaved, and even moved. Over time, she felt she was losing herself.

Their marriage ended after three years. Cannon later accused Grant of emotional cruelty and described the relationship as suffocating, though she maintained she never loved him for fame or money. Leaving, she said, was necessary for survival. From that marriage came her greatest joy—their daughter, Jennifer, born in 1966. After Grant’s death, Cannon refused lucrative offers to write a tell-all, choosing privacy over profit.

Now in her late 80s, Cannon still draws attention when photographed in public, sparking both admiration and criticism. Through it all, she credits faith with helping her heal, calling prayer her anchor. Looking back, she sums up her journey simply: it took time to find happiness—but she finally did.
