Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been separated by nearly 3,000 miles for some time now, which has led to rumors that their relationship is strained.

The Duke of Sussex recently revealed in a startling way why he was alone himself in New York while his wife mingled at a celebrity-filled event in California.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, 40, have been attending events separately in recent months, which has sparked media speculation about their marriage.

Meghan, 43, walked the red carpet by herself on December 4 at the star-studded Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills.

Harry tried to address the topic of the couple’s relationship dynamic from the other side of the country after she made a solo appearance at the ceremony honoring Princess Lilibet’s godfather, filmmaker Tyler Perry.

The prince was asked about the public’s fascination with him and his wife and their “professional separation” by columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin during The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit.

I looked you up on Google News, and I found that people were always enthralled with what you were doing. In reference to Meghan’s presence at the Paley Honors dinner, Sorkin remarked, “They’re fascinated [why] Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here.”

“And there are articles everywhere about, you know, ‘Why are you making, doing independent events?’” Sorkin went on. Why don’t you do them with me?

The Duke of Sussex’s response was clear: “You should have known, since you invited me!” he exclaimed, and then the audience burst out laughing.

“That’s right,” Sorkin responded. Does that seem typical to you? “Well, what is happening with these two, right?” people ask when they see an item that states that you are in New York and she is in California. Is the fact that so many people are interested in you, in a sense, a plus for you?

“No, that’s definitely not a good thing,” Harry said. “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” Harry continued, alluding to some of the rumors circulating about the royal family. It appears that we have also divorced perhaps ten or twelve times. Thus, it’s simply like, “What?”

You simply kind of disregard it because it’s difficult to keep up with. Harry went on, “The trolls are the people I feel the most sorry for.” They keep building their hopes, and then they say, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and it never materializes. I therefore feel bad for them. I really do.

“Lived it.”
Prince Harry remarked that he had “lived it” since he was a little boy, a media frenzy that began with his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, and her turbulent marriage with his father, King Charles III. Being the focus of attention is nothing new to him.

The prince clarified, “I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid.” I’ve come across narratives about myself that aren’t entirely true to life. I’ve seen tales about friends, family, strangers, and a wide spectrum of other people.
